Harwich Real Estate
Harwich was settled in 1670 and incorporated in 1694 and originally included the lands of now Brewster. Early industry included fishing and farming with cranberry industry coming in later. Today Harwich is a residential community with tourism a strong part of its economy much like most of Cape Cod.
Harwich is approximately 33 square miles and is bordered on the south by Nantucket Sound, to the east by Chatham, to the north by Brewster and to the west by Dennis. It has three active harbors, Saquatucket, Wychmere and Allen Harbors.
Harwich features many saltwater and freshwater beaches. It shares Long Pond (one of the largest lakes on the Cape) with Brewster. Long Pond is large enough to allow small aircraft to land in the water. There is also Sand Pond where the town recreation department has offered swimming lessons. Additionally there are miles of rivers for recreation.
The town is comprised of seven villages: Pleasant Lake, West Harwich, East Harwich, Harwich Port, Harwich Center, North Harwich and South Harwich, each with its own flavor.
